We live in increasingly uncertain times.
Sadly, we hear news about unexpected and senseless violence nearly every day—whether it’s on the other side of the globe or right in our own backyards.
We are shocked and saddened by events we never thought we’d have to see.
Understandably, that kind of tragedy can leave people feeling sad, fearful, and anxious.
While we all feel fearful at times (we’re human); we don’t have to live in fear.
How can we conquer anxious thoughts?
First, you have a choice. I have a choice: I may feel fearful, but I choose to live by FAITH, not FEAR.
You can stand strong in the face of adversity or uncertainty when you put your faith in God, not your circumstances.
Second, you can choose prayer over panic. Jill Briscoe once said, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers.”
You can talk to God in prayer and release your fears—not hold on to them. Let them go—and go to the One who has the power to make real and lasting changes in our lives and others. Trust that He will take care of things.
Nothing is too hard for God.
In dark times, you can have assurance that the Lord is your light. He will help you to see the path before you, and not be afraid.
Take heart and find renewed hope in this ancient wisdom from God’s Word that is relevant today and every day.
Finally, here are some helpful verses to overcome fear and give you strength and peace:
“I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12)
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” (Psalm 94:19)
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” (Proverbs 29:25)
“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times” (Psalm 91:14-15, The Message)
Powerful Prayer
Lord, I ask that you would still my fears and give me renewed strength and faith. Protect me, and protect those in need. Help me to look to You—and Your strength and mighty power—and not my circumstances, knowing that You are sovereign and in control. I choose to trust You. Thank you for your peace. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
